PIXELS

A Collaborative Juried Exhibition with the National Association of Digital Artists (NaDA) and the Cape Cod Museum of Art.

November 22, 2023 - February 11, 2024

Digital Art Digital Art is an artistic work or practice that uses digital technology as an essential part of the creative process. This includes the use of computers, mobile phones or portable handheld devices in conjunction with a variety of apps. Digital art can take many forms including paintings made entirely of pixels, collage, original photography, animation and video.

104 artists from 5 countries (including USA) and from 7 states in the USA submitted a total of 192 artworks for this competition - a collaboration between the National Association of Digital Artist (NaDA) and the

Cape Cod Museum of Art. Only 45 artworks were selected.

A note from the juror:

It was an absolute honour to be the judge of PIXELS, the first exhibition devoted exclusively to Digital Art to be exhibited at the Cape Cod Museum of Art. Certainly, judging a digital art competition with a broad and open-ended brief such as this was challenging, but it was also an exciting opportunity for me to appreciate diverse forms of creativity that are being created in the digital art world.

Enjoying art can be a very subjective experience so to ensure that I carried out the process with fairness, appreciation for artistic diversity and a recognition of outstanding digital art that aligned with the exhibition’s broad objectives of including work that is creative and demonstrates the wide range of possibilities in the creation of Digital Art, I compiled a set of guidelines which formed the criteria to ensure this happened. The criteria included creativity, originality, technical skill, composition, concept, emotional impact, and relevance to the theme of the competition.

Judging this show has been a wonderful, yet challenging experience. So many of the artists deserve awards and pieces merit further discussion. With a limitation of exhibition space, narrowing down the artworks is always difficult but I am thrilled for the artists that will see their work transferred from the digital screen and onto the walls of the Cape Cod Museum where I hope the digital art conversation may start and long continue in its first Digital Art exhibition.

Nicki Fitz-Gerald, Juror

Award winning iPhone & iPad artist, author and educator Nicki Fitz-Gerald has always found the world around her a constant inspiration for her art. When the iPhone became her chief creative tool back in 2009, Nicki suddenly found she was not only able to effortlessly document the amazing world around her but by utilizing the many apps available, she could also create and share her own unique vision of the world through the creation of her painterly abstract works of art.

Over the past 10 years, Nicki has produced an incredible portfolio of work with her abstract and often humorous compositions, attracting much attention – her work is often featured in Contemporary Collage magazine. She has won several digital art awards, has co-authored the popular book The Art of iPhone Photography, and is founder of iPhoneographyCentral.com, a website dedicated to sharing ideas and techniques for creating mixed-media art on the iPad and iPhone.

Nicki’s second book “Digital Collage with Procreate - Creating Beautiful Mixed-Media on your iPad” published by Rocky Nook was just released.
