About our Internship Program
The Cape Cod Museum of Art offers a limited number of internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students interested in exploring careers in the museum field and beyond. Interns will gain hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of a non-profit art organization. You will be fully integrated into the museum environment—attending interdepartmental meetings, learning about institutional structure, and gaining insight into the strategic decisions that shape an art museum’s operations.
This summer, internship areas include:

Events Management
The Events Management intern plays a key role in organizing and supporting the Museum’s major fundraising events, including the Annual June Art Auction and the Annual August Gala and Art Auction. This position offers hands-on experience in event planning, fundraising, and arts administration within a nonprofit museum environment.
Responsibilities include:

Assisting with art receiving, cataloging, photography, and exhibition preparation for auction events

Supporting event logistics such as vendor coordination, menu planning, and on-site event setup and breakdown
-
Collaborating on marketing and communications efforts, including social media promotion and digital outreach
-
Helping to set up and manage the online auction platform (GiveSmart) and ensuring accurate data entry and item descriptions
-
Providing day-of-event support, including guest registration, art display assistance, and donor relations
Qualifications:
-
Strong computer and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
-
Ability to multitask and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
-
Photography and videography skills are highly desirable
-
Flexible schedule required, including occasional evenings and weekends for events
-
Interest in art, event production, or nonprofit management preferred
Youth Art Education
The Youth Art Education intern supports the Museum’s mission to inspire creativity and learning through hands-on programs for children, teens, and adults. This position offers practical experience in museum education, community engagement, and arts administration. The Summer Youth Art Program is offered Monday - Thursday.
Responsibilities include:

Assisting with studio setup, cleanup, and organization
-
Providing in-class support to teaching artists and helping with material preparation and cleanup
-
Supporting registration management and communication with participants and families
Qualifications:
-
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
-
Experience or interest in art, education, or child development
-
Ability to work well with students ages 6-14 with a range of abilities
-
Flexible schedule, including occasional weekends for special programs
-
Art-making experience is helpful but not required
Pottery Studio
The Pottery Studio intern assists in the daily operation of the Museum’s pottery studio for the Summer Youth Pottery Program offered Monday - Thursday, gaining experience in ceramics studio management and arts education support.
Responsibilities include:

Assisting with studio setup, cleanup, and organization

Ability to work well with students ages 6-14 with a range of abilities

Helping to mix and recycle clay, load and unload kilns, and prepare glazes
-
Maintaining tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure a safe and efficient studio environment
Qualifications:
-
Interest or coursework in ceramics, fine arts, or studio management
-
Ability to perform physical tasks related to studio work
-
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety procedures
Museum Shop Intern
The Museum Shop intern helps manage the daily operations of the Museum Shop, learning about retail management, merchandising, and visitor engagement in a museum setting.
Responsibilities include:

Assisting with inventory management, restocking, and display design
-
Creating and updating product descriptions and images for online sales platforms
-
Collaborating on marketing and visual merchandising projects
-
Helping with artist consignment intake and recordkeeping
Qualifications:
-
Strong organizational and communication skills
-
Interest in art, retail management, or museum operations
-
Attention to detail and comfort working with point-of-sale systems
Marketing and Social Media
The Marketing and Social Media intern supports the Museum’s efforts to promote exhibitions, events, and educational programs to the public. This position offers valuable experience in digital marketing, communications, and brand management within a nonprofit arts organization.
Responsibilities include:

Assisting with the creation and scheduling of social media content across multiple platforms

Supporting marketing campaigns for exhibitions, events, and educational programs
-
Contributing to photography and videography for digital and print use
-
Collaborating with staff to ensure consistent visual and written messaging across all channels
Qualifications:
-
Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
-
Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content creation tools
-
Photography, videography, or graphic design experience is a plus
Program Details
-
Duration: June – August 2026 (approximately 10 weeks). Department-specific, flexible, and coordinated individually with each intern according to program needs.

Internship positions are in-person. Remote positions not offered.

Participation is required at our Annual Gala & Art Auction on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
Eligibility
Internships are open to:

Undergraduate and graduate students
-
Majors in art, art history, arts administration, museum studies, arts education, hospitality, marketing and communications, or related fields

Secured housing, on Cape preferred
General Qualifications
-
Flexibility to assist staff with a variety of museum operations and event tasks
-
Strong computer skills; interns will need to bring their own laptop
-
Photography and audio/visual abilities are a plus
-
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
-
Occasional physical work may be required
-
Housing and/or Transportation are not provided
Compensation and Benefits

This is an unpaid internship, but participants will receive:

A one-year CCMoA membership

Letters of recommendation upon successful completion

Free admission to one Museum School class or event of your choice

Support in meeting college credit requirements (to be reviewed in advance)
