“Watercolor in Wellfleet” with Wennie Huang

Description:

In this two day workshop, capture the iconic marshes, waterfront piers, and quaint structures of historic Wellfleet with watercolor instructor, Wennie Huang, Each session will begin with a step-by-step watercolor demonstration focusing on composition, palette, and watercolor techniques for capturing the unique qualities of light, water, and human activity in Wellfleet’s classic Cape landscape. Sessions will take place between the waterfront pier in Wellfleet, and Tom’s Bridge overlooking the Wellfleet marshes.

Supply List:

Watercolor Paints: (Liquid in Tubes or Pans in Travel Fieldbox)

RECOMMENDED COLORS – I use Van Gogh, Sennelier, Winsor Newton, and Rembrandt brands:

• alizarin crimson or madder lake deep

• permanent rose or opera rose

• cadmium red light or vermilion

• burnt sienna

• cadmium yellow light or hansa or azo yellow

• lemon yellow

• raw sienna

• viridian green

• ultramarine blue

• cobalt blue

• cerulean blue

• payne’s gray – optional

Brushes:

#8 Sable watercolor round w/good tip (for 9 x 12 painting)

#10 Sable watercolor flat-sable or synthetic

3/4" - 1" watercolor flat - sable or synthetic

Watercolor Paper:

• 140 lb. Cold Press. Arches blocks – 9” x 12”, 10″ x14”, or 12″ x 12″, (Green Cover) or you can purchase single sheets and tape on all sides to a stiff foam board.

Palette if you are using Watercolors in Tubes:

• White enamel metal palette (butcher’s tray) for mixing liquid paints or the white mixing surface that comes with your paint kit NO plastic circular palettes and any palettes which are not white: https://www.jerrysartarama.com/butchers-tray-palettes

• white porcelain dish can be used in a pinch

• NO plastic circular palettes or any palettes which are not white

Miscellaneous

• Small spray bottle for misting palette

• Two clear containers for water

• #2 Pencil and eraser

• Small sketch pad, pencil and eraser to make thumbnail sketches

• Bounty or Viva Paper towels or Kleenex for blotting

• 1/2″ Thin Artists Tape

• Clear Wax Crayon Resist

Plein Air Equipment

• Collapsible Chair or Stool (there are benches on the pier as well)

• Easel for holding Watercolor Block, especially if you paint on the larger (optional)

• Sun Protection (Hat/sunglasses/sunscreen)

• Water (for drinking and painting)

• Bug Protection (Insect repellent)

• Snacks

• Masks (Covid-protection)
