About
Get ready for a magical adventure with Lenore Lyons! In this whimsical four-day class, children will create miniature homes for indoor fairies, gnomes, and other tiny beings. Each child will design, plan, and build their own dwelling in this highly engaging STEAM project that truly puts the “A” in Art.
On the first day, students will decide on the basic shape of their house. They’ll then construct it using dowels, grapevine, and reeds. Walls will come to life as students weave and wire together fibers, raffia, and silk flowers. As the week unfolds, children will stretch their imaginations while working with an amazing variety of natural and “magical” materials to create unique rooms, complete with furniture and cozy details.
Midweek, students will be introduced to Sculpey, a colorful oven-baked clay, to craft miniature foods, decorations, and special accessories. On the final day, everyone will create a few woodland figures to inhabit and play in the tiny magical world they’ve brought to life.
Lenore Lyons believes that her superpower is making art accessible to everyone. People of all ages say they feel comfortable and have fun exploring creativity in her classes. This passion led to The Key Idea®, a large-scale community art project that uses keys to inspire big ideas. Over 7,000 people ages 1-100+ have created KeyStories from across the United States, which have been exhibited on Cape Cod, Boston, Chicago, and Washington DC, at the Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum.
A retired teacher, Lyons has developed award-winning arts education programs; in 2018, she was recognized with a VISI Award from the Cape Cod and Islands Art Educators for art education and advocacy. The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod honored Lyons with the Social Collaboration in the Arts Award, along with Harwich Junior Theater. Lenore Lyons teaches online and locally at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod and Cape Cod Museum of Art. Follow The Key Idea on Instagram, FB, and YouTube.
