The Museum School at the Cape Cod Museum of Art presents:

Miniature Woodland Habitat and Magical Characters with Lenore Lyons (Ages 6-11)

July 24 – July 28, from 10:00 – 12:00.

Members $195 / Non-Members $210; includes $20 materials fee

Ages 6-11.

Children will create their own miniature habitat for indoor fairies, gnomes, leprechauns or other tiny enchanted beings.

Each child will design, plan and build a dwelling in this fun class that puts the A for art in this highly engaging STEAM project. On the first day, students will decide on the basic shape of their house. Then, they will construct it with dowels, grapevine, and reeds. They will complete the walls by weaving or wiring fibers, raffia, and silk flowers. As the week progresses, children will stretch their imaginations while using an amazing variety of natural and “magical” materials to create different types of rooms with all the necessary furniture and comfort items.

In this special habitat class, children will have the option to build a garden for flowers or vegetables, a rustic fence, or a glistening pond. Then, Sculpey, a colorful oven-baked clay will be introduced to make any necessary foods, decorations, and accessories. On the final day, everyone will make a few miniature woodland figures to play with in the tiny magical world they created.

With permission, students will learn to use hand tools and hot glue, safely.

A retired teacher, Lyons has developed award-winning arts education programs; in 2018 she was recognized with a VISI Award from the Cape Cod and Islands Art Educators for art education and advocacy.
