Pottery Hand Building with Rachel Mulcahy

In this beginner-friendly class, you will learn how to create functional ceramic pieces using the slab-building technique. You will discover how to work with patterns, slip and score seams, and customize your own paper templates to create unique forms. Additionally, we will explore creative surface decoration techniques, including stencils, water-carving, and making your own custom ceramic stamps.

Every student will come away with a collection of finely crafted, hand-built pottery. Your instructor, Rachel, is a detail enthusiast who loves helping beginners and intermediate artists alike become their best craftspersons. Materials included.

Rachel Mulcahy is a ceramic artist from Dennis, Massachusetts, with a BFA in Art Education from Syracuse University and an MFA in Ceramics from the University of Massachusetts. Rachel has been teaching ceramics at CCMoA for four years and has also taught ceramics at a local private high school and at the university level. Through her guidance, students of all ages have discovered the joys of working with clay.

Please park in the back of the museum—take the 2nd driveway off of Hope Lane. You will enter the building through the pottery studio in the back.
