About
You're invited to submit your artwork to the Annual CCMoA Members Juried Exhibition, Why Cape Cod?
Since the early days of the Provincetown art colony, Cape Cod has drawn artists from near and far to come and make art. Some followed influential teachers here such as Hawthorne and Hoffman; some came for the support and freedom fostered in the Cape Cod community of artists, and some came because of the light.
Today’s Cape Cod creative culture still exerts a huge influence on the artists who live and visit here.
How does Cape Cod influence your art-making? We want to know!
Is it the light?
Is it the sights you see- from landscapes to people to industries (ie fishing)?
Is it the inspiration you get from Provincetown, the oldest art colony in the country?
Is your process impacted by the Art Movements nurtured and developed here?
Or is your art influenced by your own lifestyle, state of mind and emotions that result from being here?
The Cape Cod Museum of Art is calling for artworks that show, in some way, the influence Cape Cod has on you! Art may be representational, abstract or non-objective. Please include no more than 100 words explaining how Cape Cod influenced this specific artwork. If provided, accepted artworks will have these short statements printed on the wall label next to your artwork.
Three (3) Juror’s Recognition Awards will be presented by juror Laura Shabott at the Opening Reception on Thursday, February 6, 2025:

About The Juror:
Laura Shabott is a graduate of School of Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts, Boston and a Returning Resident at the Fine Arts Work Center (FAWC), Provincetown. She is known for working directly from life using sweeping gestural forms, vibrant color and bold brushwork. Shabott’s post-college training at FAWC and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum is evident in her process-based approach. A studio artist, she is also an art teacher and lecturer with a deep commitment for sharing the history of Provincetown art.
Emily Mergel writes in ARTSCOPE magazine “Shabott continually draws inspiration from abstract expressionist Hans Hofmann and breaks forms into their most evocative essentials…She seizes the opportunity to burst the gallery walls, speaking with intentional gesture in visual vocabulary all her own.” Her paintings, collages and drawings have been exhibited regionally in solo, juried and invitational shows at Berta Walker Gallery, Provincetown; Cape Cod Museum of Art, Dennis, MA; Ely Center for Contemporary Arts, New Haven, CT; Four Eleven Gallery, Provincetown; Provincetown Art Association and Museum, (PAAM); Provincetown Monument and Museum (PMPM); Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill, Truro. Shabott has work in the permanent collection of PAAM and will have a solo show YOU ONLY GET ONE BODY October 2025 at the Cape Cod Museum of Art. She is represented by Berta Walker Gallery.
