About

Join Bob Seay for a fascinating illustrated presentation exploring Edward Hopper’s deep connection to Cape Cod and the story behind one of his most iconic local paintings, Church in Eastham (1948). Drawing on decades of research, Seay reveals how a chance discovery after moving to Eastham led him to uncover remarkable details about Hopper’s time on the Cape, the people and places that inspired his work, and the enduring legacy of the artist in the region. Blending art history, local history, and personal storytelling, this engaging talk offers fresh perspectives on Hopper’s creative process and the Cape Cod landscapes that shaped some of his most celebrated paintings. Whether you are an art enthusiast, a history buff, or simply curious about Cape Cod’s cultural heritage, this presentation promises an insightful and memorable experience.

A retired broadcast journalist, Bob Seay has had a lifelong interest in art and theater and became fascinated with Edward Hopper’s work at an early age. Little did he know that when he moved to Eastham in 1972, he was living across the street from the subject of a Hopper painting, Church in Eastham (1948). That's when his research into the painting and Hopper’s life on Cape Cod began yielding unique insights into the artist’s life and provided the material for his popular Hopper lectures. On Cape Cod, he has worked as an announcer and reporter at radio stations WOCB, WVLC/LOM, and WQRC, and was Executive Director at WOMR in Provincetown before moving to Rhode Island Public Radio in Providence, ending his career at WGBH in Boston in 2024.
