The 2021 CCMoA “Muse Awards”

The CCMoA Muse Awards were created in 2014 to honor community leaders who not only have given generously to the Museum over the years, but have also made significant contributions to the arts and non-profit communities in many other ways. These individuals have worked, often without much recognition or gratitude. On the occasion of the Cape Cod Museum of Art’s 40th Anniversary and our annual Summer Auction/Fundraiser, we are pleased to recognize two exceptional individuals with the CCMoA Muse Awards.

CCMoA Muse Benefactor Award:

Steven and Kathleen Sidwell

Steven and Kathleen Sidwell are the Cape Cod Museum of Art 2021 Benefactor Award Recipients. The Sidwells have been active supporters of cultural institutions across Cape Cod and the country. It was their contribution to the CCMoA through the Sidwell Family Trust that enabled us to publish our celebrated collections book, Art From Cape Cod, in 2016.

A great team, Steve and Kate, have been directly involved with local artists by collecting

their work, and opening up a vast network to them. Proprietors of the Studio on Slough Road in Brewster, they have established themselves as a central cultural hub for all the arts. Kathleen served as a board member and clerk here at the museum, devoting her

time and passion to help instill her vision of excellence.

As a respected artist in her own right, Kathleen understands how difficult it can be to prosper as a professional artist, and has provided great compassion to this community.

It is with heartfelt appreciation to Steven and Kathleen Sidwell that we acknowledge

their notable contributions with this Cape Cod Museum of Art 2021 Benefactor Award.

CCMoA Muse Artist Award:
Jack Coughlin

We are proud to announce the Cape Cod Museum of Art
2021 ARTIST MUSE AWARD recipient is Jack Coughlin.
An accomplished American etcher, engraver and woodcut
artist, Jack Coughlin studied at the Rhode Island School of
Design and at the Art StudentsLeague of New York.

He first began to exhibit his art in 1959 and since that time has had numerous one man shows and has participated in many international expositions. Jack, along with his wife Joan Hopkins are locally well known for their artist-owned Golden Cod Gallery in Wellfleet, MA, the oldest in town. But, beneath Jack’s modest exterior, there lies a life of artistic accomplishments.

From 1961 to 1994, Jack Coughlin was Professor of Art at the University of Massachusetts,

Amherst. Major institutions that own examples of Coughlin’s original graphic art include the

Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum, New York, the Boston Public Library, Columbia University, the New University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, and the Staedelsches Kunstinstitut, Frankfort, Germany and the Cape Cod Museum of Art. His art has also been the subject of one man shows in Boston, Dublin, Ireland, and Florence, Italy. In 2004 Coughlin’s art was the subject of a major retrospective exhibition at Springfield College, Springfield, Massachusetts.

The Cape Cod Museum of Art would like to honor Jack Coughlin’s major artistic achievements right here on Cape Cod with the 2021 ARTIST MUSE AWARD and through a retrospective exhibition of Jack’s work at the CCMoA in 2022.
