About
This class is designed for teens who want to explore clay as a form of personal expression. Through handbuilding techniques such as slab, coil, and pinch, students will develop both technical skills and their own artistic voice.
Rather than focusing on perfect outcomes, we’ll emphasize process, experimentation, and meaning-making. Students will be encouraged to explore form, texture, and surface design while creating work that reflects their ideas, experiences, and imagination.
Students will have the opportunity to use the pottery wheel for up to two class sessions if they enjoy it, or they may choose to continue developing their work through handbuilding.
We’ll use underglazes (clay paint) to add color and personality to each piece. Work will be kiln-fired and ready for pickup about 2–3 weeks after class. Families will be notified when pieces are ready.
Jenn Reed is an art educator and ceramic artist with over 30 years of experience working with young people. She currently teaches at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School, where she creates a supportive, creative classroom environment that encourages exploration, risk-taking, and personal voice.
Jenn earned her BFA in ceramics from Alfred University and was a resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation in Montana. Her teaching is rooted in the belief that art is a powerful way for students to connect with themselves and the world around them. She lives on Cape Cod with her family, enjoys travel and nature, and is currently exploring painting and printmaking in her studio while working toward her Master’s in Teaching.
The Cape Cod Museum of Art is committed to making Art accessible to everyone in the Cape Cod Community. The Museum School Scholarship Fund provides tuition assistance to qualified, year-round Cape Cod residents ages 6 and up. Click here to apply.
