Push Pull Figure Drawing and Painting: Theory and Inspiration from Hans Hofmann and His Students with Laura Shabott
1-Day Workshop, Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 10:00-2:00 pm.
Member $80 / Non-Member $95; includes model fee.
Why is the foundation of modern art, Hans Hofmann’s theory of push/pull, so engaging? This theory is the foundation of Abstract Expressionism and modern abstraction taught during Hofmann's seminal school in Provincetown from 1935 to 1958.
We will create many charcoal drawings that respond to this natural law while learning about mark making and composition as it relates to the two-dimensional surface. Through guided exercises, mindful critique with a model as your subject, you will experience first-hand Hofmann’s search for the real as it relates to you.
