Pottery Hand Building with Rachel Mulcahy

Join instructor Rachel Mulcahy in this beginner-friendly, Hand Building class. In this beginner-friendly class, you will learn how to create pottery using the slab-building technique.

What to expect:

• Foundational skills: How to roll a slab, slip & score seams, construct forms using patterns and molds.

• Projects: The possibilities are endless! Class projects may include custom stamps for texture, serving platters, mugs, pitchers, or plates. Self-directed ‘passion’ projects are encouraged, but not required.

What’s included:

• Clay: One 25-lb. bag of clay is included in your studio fee. Additional clay is available for purchase as studio reclaim clay (recycled clay) at a reduced rate.

• Firings: bisque firing and glaze firing (cone 6)

• Glaze: Full access to the studio’s large collection of glazes

• Open Studio Sessions: Access to 6 Open Studio sessions, held on Thursdays, 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm. This is an optional additional session in the studio where students can practice and hone their skills

Every student will come away with a collection of finely crafted, hand-built pottery. Your instructor, Rachel, is a detail enthusiast who loves helping beginners and intermediate artists alike become their best craftsmen.

Rachel Mulcahy is a ceramic artist from Dennis, Massachusetts, with a BFA in Art Education from Syracuse University and an MFA in Ceramics from the University of Massachusetts. Rachel has been teaching ceramics at CCMoA for four years and has also taught ceramics at a local private high school and at the university level. Through her guidance, students of all ages have discovered the joys of working with clay.

Please park in the back of the museum—take the 2nd driveway off of Hope Lane. You will enter the building through the pottery studio in the back. Cancellation policy: CCMoA must be notified 1 week prior for refund.
