MUSIC & LYRICS: A Workshop In Spoken-word Poetry & Rapping Over Music

Instructors: Team taught by an English Professor and Hip-hop Artist, MWALIM and ZYG 808; Mwalim and ZYG 808 are both Grammy nominated songwriters, producers, and performers (as well as father and son).

Music & Lyrics is a hands-on workshop for aspiring spoken-word poets and rappers. Each participant works toward writing a verse as either a rap or spoken-word piece, and records it over one of the pre-produced backing tracks. Each participant will receive a download link to mp3 files containing their recordings.

Bios: MWALIM (Morgan James Peters, I) is a multi-award-winning, interdisciplinary artist, whose disciplines span music, literature, theater, and film. A prolific  storyteller, singer, and playwright whose works have been presented throughout the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and the UK, Mwalim is the co-founder of Oversoul Theatre Collective and Song Keepers, LTD on Cape Cod, his 35 year career as a performing artist and educator has yielded numerous awards, grants and fellowships. He is currently professor of English, Communications, and Black Studies at UMass Dartmouth.

ZYG 808 (Morgan James Peters, II) is a recent graduate of Mashpee High School, where he was an honor student. He will be attending Goddard College in the fall, pursuing a BFA in Music Composition and Media Production. In 2018 he received two Grammy nominations for his debut mixtape, "At The Party" and is currently producing music at Polyphonic Studios where he is also an apprentice audio engineer.
