About
Artist Bob Staake is world-famous for his eclectic work, including his award-winning New Yorker cover illustrations, his best-selling children’s books, and Washington Post illustrations. In his lively and humorous slide presentation, Staake will regale guests with an overview of his career and his process in creating an exciting and wide-ranging body of work.
In an online interview, Drawn suggested that "to say Bob Staake is just an illustrator is like saying 'The Beatles' were just a bunch of musicians; the title doesn't do the artist justice" and Publisher's Weekly commented that "Bob Staake's modern, crisp illustrations ... practically jump off the page"
Staake's November 17, 2008 cover of The New Yorker entitled ‘Reflection' commemorating Barack Obama's election as the nation's first African- American president was named by TIME as the Best Magazine Cover of 2008, dubbing the image "beautifully rendered" and "simply spectacular" -- in fact, it is the most popular New Yorker cover of all-time according to the New Yorker Store.
One of the nation's most successful illustrators, Staake’s clients have included The New Yorker, TIME, Vanity Fair, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Random House, Hallmark Cards, Cartoon Network, The Chicago Tribune, Simon and Schuster, and countless others.
He has authored and/or illustrated over 70 books, including BLUEBIRD, The Donut Chef, Bugs Galore, Hello Robots, Look A Book, This Is Not A Pumpkin, Pets Go Pop, The Book Of Gold, and others. The New York Times named his book 'The Red Lemon' one of the 10 Best Illustrated Books of 2006. Staake's children's books have been translated into over 15 languages around the world.
In 2014, he starred in an international TV commercial and ad campaign for Intel. The commercial also featured animated characters from Staake's My Pet Book that seemed to fly off the pages. It was filmed entirely on Cape Cod.
He lives and works in Chatham, Massachusetts in a 220-year-old house.
