

Express Yourself! Abstract Expressionism for Kids! with Sharon Keller Hughes (Ages 8-14)

In this four-day class, students get creative and express themselves while exploring abstract expressionism through drawing and painting with hands-on activities and tours of the Museum's exhibitions. Students will learn about figurative and gestural techniques and view vivid works by renowned artist Carmen Cicero, whose works are at the Guggenheim and on exhibit this summer at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in conjunction with the release of his handsome monograph Carmen Cicero Drawings and Watercolors: Tales of Intrigue, Danger and Humor.

Sharon Keller Hughes began her educational career in Visual Arts, obtaining her BFA in 1993 from Anna Maria College and double majored in Art Education and Art Therapy. She taught art to students K -12 in both public and private schools and at the museum level for many summers at Worcester Art Museum. Sharon cares deeply about having students express themselves visually in meaningful ways to connect to each other and the world around them. Sharon also has a M.Ed in Special Education and was a special educator for many years & worked as an elementary school Assistant Principal in Harwich. It brings her great joy to circle back to teaching visual art once again.
