This 3-day workshop is a unique opportunity for young artists to discover the limitless possibilities of abstract art. Inspired by concepts developed in Provincetown, home of the nation’s oldest art colony, students will experiment with a variety of materials and styles, as they create dynamic abstract art. Students will also tour the current Cape Cod Museum of Art exhibitions.

On the first day, students will explore Action painting and Expressionism. They will learn color mixing skills, dripping and pouring techniques, and gestural brushwork that will create visually exciting images.

The second day will cover Geometric Abstraction, with it’s colorful shapes and bold compositions. Working in mixed media students will create multi-layered pieces with printmaking techniques and collage.

On the final day, students will apply these new skills to their own personal 3D projects where they will construct abstract sculptures. Creativity and self-expression will be at the core of the workshop as they learn how to take their own creative ideas and turn them into exciting abstract art!
