Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM.

*Rain date: Sunday, October 16.

This 2-hour discussion will be an exploration of the sculpture works currently on exhibit in the Cape Cod Open Sculpture Invitational at the CCMoA. Sculptor Roe Osborn will lead the group in looking at the concepts behind the sculptures, the ideas they seem to spring from, and the different approaches that the sculptors have taken in their pieces.

Through this discussion, Osborn’s creative insight will plant seeds of inspiration for the participants’ future sculptural work. Students are encouraged to bring a sketchbook, questions, and ideas.

The rain date for this workshop is October 16, 2022, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM.

Roe Osborn graduated from college in the 1970s with a studio art major (sculpture). His work at the time consisted of cerebral abstract wood carvings. Four years later he took an advanced sculpture course at the University of Rhode Island that introduced him to a conceptual approach to sculpture. His work quickly became constructions using mainly wood and glass. Each of his pieces contains a contextual mathematical formula that guides the construction and assembly of the work.

After moving to the Cape in 2005, Roe began exploring cylindrical geometry in his sculpture. The sculptures still sprang from contextual formulas, but this time they were made from plastic pipe, either PVC plumbing pipe or large sections of corrugated drainage pipe.

Installations of Roe’s work can be seen at many locations on Cape Cod, including Cotuit Center for the Arts and The Cape Cod Museum of Art. He also participates annually in exhibitions around the northeast. In addition to his sculpture, Roe is also an accomplished musician, photographer, and writer.

Cancellation Policy: A one-week advance cancellation notice is required in order to receive a refund.
