About

As we approach the 100th birthday of Nat King Cole (March 17th), Dennis Flaherty and the band will perform a collection of songs made famous by the great singer/pianist/pioneer.

Dennis Flaherty - A lifetime lover of Cape Cod summers, Dennis retired from his teaching career (Elementary Physical Education, Town of Medway) in 2011, and since 2013, is a year round Cape Cod resident. For the past four years, Dennis has been, and continues to be the lead singer with the Cape Conservatory Jazz Band, an eighteen piece big band led by Tyler Newcomb. Dennis specializes in songs made popular by such artists such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Bobby Darin, and more. Dennis can also be heard on occasion singing with the Bart Weisman Jazz Band, and Stage Door Canteen.

Malcolm Granger is the principal composer of Wrinkles, The Musical, which premiered at The Cape Cod Theatre Company in 2017. Also that year he was part of Trish & Jared's 21st Century Songbook and Boundless at Cape Rep. At Cotuit Center For The Arts, he was music director for One Man, Two Guvnors, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Emily Wade Adam's' Love is Blind, which also played at Feinstein's 54 Below.

Alan Clinger - My instrument is Jazz Guitar and I perform as a soloist and in groups that range in size from a duo to a sixteen piece stage band. The style of music played is referred to as “mainstream jazz”, which is jazz based on American Standards including songs from Ragtime and Dixieland to Swing, Bebop and beyond. This music is very accessible to the audience and suitable for ambience, listening, and dancing.

The Cape is blessed with many great jazz musicians and I have had the opportunity to perform with all of them. I have given performances at festivals and guitar shows here and in New York and California. Most of my group’s performances are at local restaurants, clubs, resorts, and for private functions, or concerts.

Ron Ormsby - Ron is a jazz bassist originally from Boston, where he studied at Berklee College of Music. In addition to performing at many of the local Boston jazz clubs, he was a founding member of the Boston Jazz Quartet. This group played extensively throughout the New England area and made two tours through Europe. From 1979 to 1984, he owned and operated The Columns Restaurant, a well-known jazz club on Cape Cod. For twenty years Ron was the bassist and personal manager for stride and Dixieland pianist Marie Marcus. Ron performed with Marie in jazz clubs from Cape Cod to Miami as well as an appearance at the Newport/New York Jazz Festival. He has also appeared in concert with jazz greats such as Chuck Wayne, Warren Vache, Joe Muranyi, Dick Johnson, Billy Stritch, Howard Alden, Ken Peplowski and many others. Ron currently performs in the greater New England area and one month a year in São Paulo, Brazil. In addition, from 1986 to 2015 he owned and operated REO Studios, a 24-track professional recording studio on Cape Cod.

Bart Weisman is the Executive Producer & Performer for the Provincetown Jazz Festival and performs with his jazz group, klezmer swing group, smooth jazz group, and the Cape Cod Jazz Quintet across Cape Cod.
