Banksy uses satirical humor to attack commercialism, the art world, and social issues in street art in cities around the world.
The film company describes the film: “This is the inside story of Street Art - a brutal and revealing account of what happens when fame, money and vandalism collide. Exit Through the Gift Shop follows an eccentric shop-keeper turned amateur film-maker as he attempts to capture many of the world's most infamous vandals on camera, only to have a British stencil artist named Banksy turn the camcorder back on its owner with wildly unexpected results.”
The Los Angeles Globe said this provocative film “…delights in taking you by surprise, starting
quietly but ending up in a hall of mirrors as unsettling as anything Lewis Carroll's Alice ever experienced.”
Banksy recently made art history when a popular work of his sold for $1.4 million at auction and immediately began shredding from its frame. Banksy revealed that he had installed a shredder in the frame, claiming that destruction is an act of creation. This new artwork has already increased in value.
