Pysanky are folk art eggs made for centuries in Ukraine, traditionally by women, for the spring festivals and were eventually absorbed into Christian celebrations. In this one-day workshop, we will learn the traditional wax-resist and dye method of decorating raw eggs (non-edible) that, handled carefully, will last for years.
Participants are asked to bring six jars with lids for their own dye and spoons for dipping eggs. Wide-mouth pint (16 oz.) glass jars - peanut butter and salsa jars work perfectly.
Artist Stephanie Rossi learned this ancient art as a teenager and is “moved to share it with you as I hold the people of Ukraine in my thoughts.” Pysanky can be as simple or as intricate as your patience allows, all will be beautiful and so fun to make!
