4-Week Introduction to Gouache Painting 101 with Patty Barnes

(4) Fridays, October 4 - October 25, from 10:00 - 12:30 pm.

Member $110 / Non-Member $125

No painting experience or drawing skills are necessary, this 4-week class is an opportunity to enhance one’s creativity and “playtime” as you learn a new painting skill. Gouache, an opaque watercolor, is non-toxic, fast drying, easy to use, and highly forgiving. The class will focus on simplicity through the use of values, shapes, and colors—always painting towards the light. If you can see, you can paint. The instructor will demonstrate staining and layering and then offer direction as participants work from photo references.

Patricia Barnes, an award-winning oil painter, studied watercolor, drawing, and oil painting at Marymount College, Tarrytown, NY, graduating with a BFA in Art History. Barnes earned her Master's Degree at the University of Wisconsin. Her work has sold nationally and internationally. Barnes specializes in oils that capture the heart of Cape Cod expressed through light and color— often with a touch of whimsy.

Barnes’ work is available at The Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis, MA, and Eastwind Gallery in Orleans, MA. She is a juried member of the American Impressionist Society, Inc., Oil Painters of America, and the Cape Cod Art Center. Barnes lives in Dennis, MA.

The Cape Cod Museum of Art is committed to making Art accessible to everyone in the Cape Cod Community. The Museum School Scholarship Fund provides tuition assistance to qualified, year-round Cape Cod residents ages 6 and up. Click here to apply.
