About

The Museum School at the Cape Cod Museum of Art presents:

Open Eyes to Color: 1-Day Color Theory Workshop with Jane Lincoln

Friday, March 1, from 1:00—4:00 pm.

Member $45 / Non-Member $55

Jane Lincoln is an expert in color theory, concentrating on the precision and relationships of colors in her own art. Through class exercises, Jane demonstrates how to analyze your color palette for hue, value, temperature, chroma, and extension. An emphasis is placed on continuing comparison/observation - "thinking in situations" - making the class aware that discovery and invention are the criteria of creativeness.

Josef Albers in Interaction of Color states: “A true middle mixture is distinguished by being equidistant—in light and in hue—from either mixture parent.” This is one color theory artist Jane Lincoln will discuss in this exciting color theory 1-day workshop.

Each artist prefers certain colors and prejudices against others in their palette. How can the same color look different? How do you make the subject color look Warm vs. Cool? Why do different grays appear the same?

Students should bring a pencil, metal ruler 18”, scotch tape, and scissors. Additional materials supplied.

This workshop is offered in conjunction with SKETCHY on view through March 17, 2024, at the Cape Cod Museum of Art.

Jane Lincoln studied with Ati Gropius Johansen who was at Black Mountain College in the classes of Josef Albers.  As an artist, Jane concentrates on the precision of a color and the intrigue of color relationships. Learn more here.
