Longing and Anticipation: Artistic Expressions on a Variation of Sentiments with Deborah Forman

Members $85 / Non-Members $100
In choosing the theme Longing and Anticipation, so appropriate at the beginning of a new year, the Cape Cod Museum of Art docents selected art from the permanent collection, which expressed a reflection and a sense of reverence, a “longing” for a memory, something in the past. And then, looking forward, they focused on “anticipation,” of a hope or desire being realized sometime in the future.
In viewing the art the docents have chosen, Forman found that the work fell into two primary categories: landscapes and figures. Smaller groups included urban scenes, interiors, abstraction, and even surrealism. This four-week course will expand on the original ideas and focus on these genres, comparing and contrasting the various approaches the artists took in creating their art in order to better understand their styles and motivations. The class will also look at whether an artwork relates to members in the class as it did to the docent who chose it. With the interest of focusing on individual impressions, participation by the class will be a significant aspect of the program, a time to share and exchange perceptions.
- Session 1: Landscapes
- Session 2: Interiors, urban scenes, surrealism
- Session 3: Figures
- Session 4: Figures and abstraction
