Embrace the opportunity to explore the joy, creativity, and uninhibited expression that comes with working on a larger scale. Join local artist and instructor Joe Gallant in utilizing oversized brushes readily available at hardware stores to craft captivating seascapes and landscapes. Through the use of acrylic or water-mixable oil paints, along with generous strokes and a palette knife, Joe will provide expert demonstrations and personalized guidance to assist you in crafting a striking land or seascape. This workshop offers the potential for your creation to serve as a captivating centerpiece in your home or work space. If you have ever felt that you are “too tight” and unsure of yourself when you start a painting, here’s your chance to learn an exciting new technique that might just change how you paint - forever!

Joe will provide a reference photo for the workshop. The image shown is an example of Joe's work.

Award-winning Cape Cod artist Joe Gallant is a full-time oil, watercolor, and acrylic painter and instructor. His painting technique is loose, spontaneous, and full of interesting color interactions. The light and transparency in his paintings create a glow that is recognizable from across a room.

His interest in art began as a child, and his father and mother were both accomplished painters. He had fine art instruction in college, was mentored by artist John Woodruff after moving to Cape Cod, and became a full-time artist on the Cape in 1998.

Gallant conducts his popular Big Brush Painting Workshops for several art centers and other organizations. In 2019 and 2021, Joe conducted painting workshops for Cape and Islands arts teachers K-12 sponsored by Cape Cod Collaborative’s Professional Development Day.

He has an in-home studio and gallery in Sandwich, Massachusetts that is open by appointment. Gallant’s original paintings, prints, boxed note cards and boxed Christmas cards are available on his website and at numerous retail shops in New England. Gallant’s original paintings are also popular auction offerings at non-profit organizations’ fund-raising events. He accepts commissions from individuals and businesses.

We have scholarships! The Cape Cod Museum of Art is committed to making Art accessible to everyone in the Cape Cod Community. The Museum School Scholarship Fund provides tuition assistance to qualified, year-round Cape Cod residents ages 6 and up. Click here to apply.
