5-Week Art History Lecture Series: Women in Art with Sue Altman

(5) Wednesdays, March 12 - April 9, from 2:00 – 3:00 pm.

Long overlooked and underappreciated, women have been a force in art history for centuries. From Renaissance portrait painters to the still life painters of the Dutch Golden Age to accomplished Impressionists and the many important 20th-century women in Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and Feminist Art, this lecture series explores both obscure and well-known artists.


This course is divided into five sessions: 16th to 18th centuries, 19th century, 20th century Painters, 20th Sculptors, 20th Performance and Installation Artists/Contemporary Artists. Each approximately 60-minute talk will feature and discuss names like Artemisia Gentileschi, Rosa Bonheur, Mary Cassatt, Helen Frankenthaler, and Georgia O’Keefe, concluding with a brief Q/A session.

CCMoA Docent Suzanne Altman is an art educator and art historian who has presented art and art history programs throughout New York, New Jersey, and Cape Cod for both adult and teenage audiences.
