The Great Tape Escape: Tape Drawing with Sadie Griesmer (Ages 6-11)

In this immersive studio class, young artists will explore an exciting and unconventional approach to drawing—using tape as their primary medium. Over the course of four days, students will experiment with line, shape, pattern, and space, discovering how simple materials can transform into bold works of art.

The class will draw inspiration from the work of Sol LeWitt, Michael Townsend, and the Tape Art Crew, exploring how each uses line, repetition, and space to create dynamic, site-specific installations. Students will consider how art can interact with its environment and how temporary materials like tape can create powerful visual experiences.

By the end of the session, the museum itself will become a gallery of student work, celebrating creativity, collaboration, and the joy of making something unexpected.

Sadie Griesmer is a multidisciplinary artist working in watercolor, acrylic paints, and ceramics. She is an arts educator presently teaching children in grades 5-8 in Haverhill, MA. Known for bright colors, playful imagery, and collaborative practices, Griesmer has the ability to question, explore narrative, and find inspiration in the everyday, which is evident in her practice. The artist/educator is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a concentration in Art Education and a minor in Art History, as well as coursework at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
