About

Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 10:30 - 1:00 pm. Museum admission included.

Art—elusive and often subjective—can be critiqued from countless perspectives: dealers, collectors, curators, jurors, other artists, friends, relatives, social media, and, of course, yourself. When you put your work into the world, everyone has something to say.

So who do you trust, and how do you evaluate your artwork in a way that truly serves you?

This workshop, limited to twelve students, focuses on direct, artist-to-artist feedback. Thoughtful critique not only supports your growth as an artist—it also helps you better understand how your work is perceived, how to articulate your intentions, and how to approach a gallery or other exhibition opportunities with clarity and confidence.

Peer-to-peer critiques will be grounded in the formal elements and principles of art, providing a shared language for discussing and assessing each artist’s work.

  • Elements: Line, Shape, Form, Color, Texture, Space, Value

  • Principles: Pattern, Contrast, Emphasis, Balance, Proportion/Scale, Harmony, Rhythm/Movement

Using these foundations, participants will look closely at how each artwork is constructed, what visual choices communicate, and how those choices support the artist’s intent.

Participants will:

  • Upload their work to a shared viewing platform before the workshop

  • Prepare a five-minute presentation to share at the workshop, introducing their work, intentions, and questions for peer feedback

  • Bring two pieces of artwork to the workshop: their favorite and least favorite
