Print Demonstration: Collagraph Printmaking with Liz Perry

Discover the creative possibilities of collagraph printmaking in this free demonstration with artist Liz Perry. This versatile printmaking technique begins with building a collage on a Masonite or Plexiglas plate. Once treated with a waterproof surface, the plate can be inked and printed in multiple ways using an etching press.

The demonstration will explore how collagraph plates can be printed in relief while deeper incised lines are inked intaglio, resulting in complex and visually rich prints. Perry will also discuss combining collagraph techniques with trace drawing, cut-paper design elements, and monotype processes to create unique, one-of-a-kind works.

Perry will offer a two-day workshop in October 2026.

Liz Perry graduated from Alfred University’s School of Fine Art, Alfred, N.Y., with departmental honors in printmaking, a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in printmaking with a minor in painting. She was a student of photographer/printmaker John Wood. After graduating, Perry worked as an artist-in-residence at Millersville State College, Millersville, PA. She has also studied with Minor White, Harland Snodgrass at Alfred Univ., Jonathan Hall of Michigan Univ., and with many printmakers and painters including Don Gorvett, Jim Peters, Joyce Zavorskas, Betsey Garand, Marina Acona and Vicki Tomayko. Perry is a member of The Boston Printmakers and is a past president of The Printmakers of Cape Cod, where she has been a member for over 40 years.

She is the owner of Blue Jacket Studios in West Brewster, where she makes small editions of collagraph prints, drypoint etchings, and monotypes, plus watercolors and mixed media paintings. Her work is non-representational but is strongly influenced by the waterways, ponds, patterns of wildlife migration, and the varied seasons of Cape Cod. Perry teaches classes at The Creative Arts Center in Chatham and The Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis. She has won numerous awards for her paintings and prints, and her work has found its way into many homes and collections in New England and around the U.S.
