About

In this 4 week workshop for oil and acrylics, we will work on one large piece from start to finish. Don’t be intimidated by size.  Jump in and have some fun. Focus on one painting and be fearless!

  1. Week 1, we will go to the nearby Dennis Conservation Land Trust, 107 Sesuit Neck Road, East Dennis, MA 02641, absorb the beauty, sketch, record, and gather info to inspire a large-format painting. Followed by indoor studio work.

  2. Week 2 in the studio, we will focus on how to start a painting with various underpaintings, toned grounds, and notans. Understand the important shapes and design of your image and how to establish good bones of your painting.

  3. Weeks 3 and 4, we will discuss the importance of color temperature and mark making to get your painting where you need it.

This is not a beginner’s class and is not formatted for watercolors.

Materials

Bring in one large canvas, for example, 30x40, 30x30, 24x48, etc. No smaller than 24’ in either direction and your normal supplies you want to work with for the first class and we’ll take it from there. Large brushes are a must!
