Mixed Media Collage Workshop with Michael Giaquinto
2 Days: Saturday, October 23 & Sunday, October 24 12:30 – 2:30
$80 Members, $100 Non- Members
Mixed media may include acrylic paints, graphite, pastels, crayons, ink markers, any water based materials. You can work on canvas board, pre-painted masonite, paper, matte board, old books, any firm surface that will take paints and adhesives. Examples will be shown.
Artistically create a unique piece of art. You can reconstruct and refashion a book, using objects that can tell a story. This workshop will bring together a variety of mixed media; including collage, embellishing and paper craft.
The workshop will teach you basic creative techniques for your artistic approach.
Demonstrations, critiques and group discussion will be included.
COVID policy:
All students must be vaccinated for COVID and wear masks. Please bring your vaccination card to your first class.

Materials List
Old books, magazines, if using old photographs, make copies first.
Watercolor paints or/and acrylic paints
Cheap hardware store brushes, 1” - 2”
Foam brushes, 1” - 2”
Scraps of colored paper, tissue paper
Rubber Stamps, stencils, and ink pad
Utility Knife and craft pen knifes
Scissors
White glue or Mod Podge or Acrylic Matte Medium
Matte board, to mount your work on; up to 16 x 20 inches
Metal ruler (12” or 18”)
Clean coffee can for water
Old shirt or apron
Paper towels
Instructor Bio:
Michael A. Giaquinto was the Exhibitions Curator at the Cape Cod Museum of Art. He studied art at Montserrat College of Art, Beverly, MA. & North Carolina State University, where he studied Art History.
Museum Technician (1990 – 1991) at the Ackland Art Museum at UNC Chapel Hill, NC. Chief Art
Preparator (1991-2000) at the Gregg Art Museum, NC State University, Raleigh, NC.
Art Teacher (2003 -2005) at St. John Paul II High School in Hyannis, MA.
Painting and Drawing teacher, along with Multi-Media & Folk Art workshops for adults at the Weny Education Center at CCMoA, Creative Arts Center, Chatham, & the Cultural Center, South Yarmouth.
Michael has held workshops at the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, Lincoln, MA. Weny Education Center at CCMOA and the Truro Center for the Arts.
Michael was awarded “Craftsman of the Year” by the Early American Life Magazine in 2001 and 2005 and in 2017 the VISI Award, presented by Cape Cod & Islands Art Educators Association; and was guest speaker and held a painting demonstration for the Guild of Harwich Artists, 2017.
His work has been exhibited with Berta Walker Gallery, Provincetown, MA., Chabot Fine Art Gallery, Providence, RI., Miller White Fine Arts, South Dennis, MA., Cape Cod Museum of Art, Dennis, MA., Cultural Center of Cape Cod, South Yarmouth, MA., Creative Arts Center, Chatham, MA., Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Provincetown, MA.
He is featured in Deborah Forman’s book, Contemporary Cape Cod Artists on Abstraction, 2015.
