Create a unique work of art while discovering the expressive possibilities of cold wax medium. In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore layering techniques that combine oil paint with cold wax to build rich textures and subtle matte surfaces. Michael will demonstrate how to integrate mixed media elements—such as pastels, inks, and collage—to expand creative expression and develop personal style. Students such pack a lunch for a 30-minute lunch break.

Student-supplied materials:

  • Oil paint: variety of colors: small tubes

  • Gamblin Cold Wax Medium, 4oz.

  • Mixed media paper pad: 11” x 14"

  • A variety of sizes of paint knives

  • Paper plates, used as a palette

  • Paper towels

  • Disposable Nitrile Gloves


Michael Giaquinto was the Exhibitions Curator at the Cape Cod Museum of Art (CCMoA) for 17 years (2003–2020), curating over 200 exhibitions. He studied fine art at Montserrat College of Art and art history at North Carolina State University. From 1991 to 2000, he was Chief Art Preparator at NC State’s Gregg Museum of Art & Design. After moving to Cape Cod, he taught art to high school students at St. John Paul II High School in Hyannis.


Giaquinto teaches various art mediums to adults and children at many cultural institutions. His work has been shown in museums and galleries across the region and is included in private, corporate, and museum collections. In 2023, he received the Cape Cod Museum of Art’s Muse Artist Award and held a solo exhibition at CCMoA in 2025.
