About
Paste paper is a very early form of decorative paper. It was first used for bookbinding in the late 16th century. Contemporary artists have taken this traditional art form and created new experimental patterns and techniques!
We will use a wheat/rice flour paste with pigment added to make the colorful paper. Patterns will be created by using a variety of objects to scratch designs into the wet paste. Once the paste dries, you will have a stack of decorative papers to use for anything from wrapping paper to decoupage, or in Heather's upcoming workshop.
Heather Pilchard is a painter, photographer, and bookbinder. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 1995. She has exhibited widely in New England as well as nationally. Pilchard is a year-round resident of Eastham on Cape Cod and lives in a house just above a salt marsh. She is a volunteer with the Wellfleet Bay Audubon Society helping to rescue cold-stunned sea turtles and monitors diamondback terrapins during their nesting season.
