About
Creating Decorative Paste Paper with Heather Pilchard 1-Day Workshop*
Friday, March 14, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 pm. Member $65 / Non-Member $85; includes supplied materials.
Paste paper is a very early form of decorative paper. It was first used for bookbinding in the late 16th century. Contemporary artists have taken this traditional art form and created new experimental patterns and techniques! We will use a wheat/rice flour paste with pigment added to make the colorful paper. Patterns will be created by using a variety of objects to scratch designs into the wet paste. Once the paste dries, you will have a stack of decorative papers to use for anything from wrapping paper to decoupage, or in our upcoming workshop March 28 workshop: Make Your Own Journal Bookbinding Workshop.
*Optional: register for both workshops now at a discounted rate! See ticketing information below.
Make Your Own Journal with Heather Pilchard. 1-Day Bookbinding Workshop on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 2:00-5:00 pm.
Join artist Heather Pilchard in this one-day hard-cover journal with decorative stitching hands-on workshop! We will use colorful book cloth, our decorative paste paper* and wax linen thread to create a journal. The joy of this book is how easy it is to stitch together. The sewing pattern is a simple pamphlet stitch used to attach the pages. The stitching is visible on the outside of the book adding a distinctive design element to the finished book!
