About

The speakers include Bill Bussiere, Senior VP of the Cape Cod Baseball League, Eric Zmuda, League Commissioner and former GM of Falmouth, Sue Horton, GM of Orleans and John Garner, Director of Broadcasting. After a brief overview of the history of the league over the years, they will discuss PR, broadcasting, player recruitment, scheduling, umpires, field enhancements and role of GM and field managers. In addition, they will discuss the makeup of individual franchises and how they are run on and off the field, the important role of host families and the financial structure of the league including corporate partners and committees.

Since 1885, the Cape Cod Baseball League has been the premier amateur baseball league in the nation. After being populated mostly by GIs returning from World War I in 1919 and WW II in the late 1940s, the CCBL continued to be populated by a combination of local and regional college players until 1963, when it became officially sanctioned by the NCAA. Following a decade (1974-84) of using aluminum bats, the Cape League became the first collegiate summer league to use wooden bats in 1985 and became even more popular with major league scouts and college players and coaches and still is to this day.

This June, the Cape League embarks for its 135th season, featuring a 40-game regular-season schedule and an action-packed postseason made up of best-of-three quarterfinal, semifinal and championship series. Among the highlights will be the 2020 Cape League All-Star game on Saturday, July 25 at Spillane Field, home of the Wareham Gatemen.

The Cape League is recognized as the best amateur summer leagues in the country by college coaches and professional baseball scouts. Players from across the USA and representing all college divisions are recruited to play in the 10-team loop. Over one thousand former players from this elite league have gone on to play in the major leagues.

Join us on this afternoon to hear from people all throughout the CCBL. We will first hear from CCBL, and then the floor will be open for questions and discussions. This event will be a homerun you won't want to miss!
