About

Join North Truro artist Robert Cardinal for a live painting demonstration and discussion.
A native of Montreal, Cardinal spent time in Greenwich Village and Paris before making his way to Provincetown, where he developed a deep appreciation for the artists and traditions that came before him, particularly those of the Realist and Impressionist schools.
Cardinal seeks harmony between the natural world and the human-made landscape, often finding inspiration in simple, evocative Cape Cod scenes—from isolated beaches and lighthouses to quiet Cape homes. Through an emphasis on color, light, and mood, he strives to capture a fleeting moment in time. Cardinal frequently paints at sunrise or sunset, when dramatic light creates striking combinations of bold, vibrant, and sometimes unexpected hues. He often returns to the same subject repeatedly, discovering that no scene ever appears quite the same way twice.
For over thirty years, Robert Cardinal has owned and exhibited his work at the Kiley Court Gallery in Provincetown. He and his son, artist Julian Cardinal, also show their paintings in the gallery space at the studio in North Truro.
