About

Artist Peter Michael Martin will discuss his distinctive white-line print process and the creation of his large-format white-line prints on recycled Beetle Cat sailcloth. Martin transforms this weathered maritime material into a canvas for contemporary printmaking, giving new life to sails with their own history and connection to the sea. The imagery on Martin’s sail depicts Cape Verdean workers harvesting cranberries, connecting the region’s maritime heritage with the history of the Cape Verdean community and its longstanding ties to the cranberry industry.
The program will continue with a screening of Cape Verdean Cranberry: The Fernandes Story. This 2025 documentary, directed by Antonio Damoura and Joe Damoura, chronicles the legacy of the Fernandes family and explores the deep historical ties between Cape Verdean immigrants and the cranberry industry of southeastern Massachusetts.
Together, Martin’s artwork and the film offer a compelling look at the intersections of art, cultural heritage, maritime history, and the labor that helped shape the Cape Cod region.
