The artist Henri Matisse wrote that he wanted his paintings to be “an armchair to come home to.” In this class we will spend time with individual works of art, exploring their many-layered meanings from our own armchairs. We will look to discover new ways of seeing and enjoying the many gifts of art. Each class will include brief ”armchair” visits to museum exhibitions, some nearby and some from other times or places. From these visits, single works are selected for longer contemplation. Discussions are encouraged and everyone is welcome.

Pat Stark Feinstein is a teacher, curator and painter who has worked in New York and on Cape Cod.  Her paintings have been exhibited at the Cork Gallery and Atlantic Gallery in NYC and at the Provincetown Art Association, the Cape Cod Museum of Art, the Harvest Gallery in Dennis, MA, among other venues.  After graduating from Mount Holyoke College, Pat studied extensively with Sam Feinstein whose classes continued the Hans Hofmann modernist philosophy of art.  Calling herself a ”second-generation” Hofmann student, Pat eventually taught painting workshops in Michigan and in Toronto working beside her husband Sam.  For twenty two years Pat taught painting, drawing and the history of art and western culture at NY’s Riverdale Country School.
