Whether you are interested in exploring the fluidity of monotype or monoprint techniques, experimenting with stencils, diving into the intricate art of collage, or mastering the traditional methods of woodcut or linocut, this workshop is designed to inspire and challenge your artistic abilities. Furthermore, participants are encouraged to combine their projects by mixing techniques, allowing for a rich exploration of texture, color, and form. This fusion of methods can lead to innovative results and a deeper understanding of the printmaking process. The collaborative environment will also provide an excellent platform for sharing ideas, techniques, and feedback among peers, fostering a sense of community among fellow artists.
The fee for this workshop is inclusive of Museum admission for the day, allowing you to immerse yourself in the rich cultural offerings of our institution. You will have the opportunity to view current exhibitions and gain inspiration from the diverse array of artworks on display. This is not just a chance to enhance your skills but also to engage with the broader artistic community and draw from the wealth of creativity that surrounds you. Sara David Ringler
“Image making is a way to interact and reflect my experiences. I love to explore and learn new techniques to make images, so printmaking, bookarts and painting provides endless possibilities. Through these media I arrange, alter and layer forms of shapes and color pulling from a variety of
content. I explore variation and abstraction to combine color relationships using drawings and photographs to make visual connections. Nature, the figure and architecture merge in metaphoric associations to create visual stories of memory, place, and time.
Although I paint and do photography, it is printmaking is my passion. Printmaking and all its possibilities is a perfect medium to explore themes and to create series of related images. I work intuitively and responsively in each piece and investigate variations in composition and content. Starting with inspiration I build and I use the process of printmaking to develop narratives. I look for a feeling of space and atmosphere and layer plates with multiple images pulling elements together in an organic manner. The monotype process is the most direct of the techniques I use, (“known as painterly print”) it is fluid and allows for spontaneous dialog with the work while it is being created. Successive layering, overprinting images, adding or wiping away inks, are ways to formalize the work.
As a professional printmaker and art professor teaching drawing, printmaking, and design, at Cape Cod Community College for over 28 years, I enjoy an ever-inspiring interaction between creating and teaching art. I am the mother of three adult children and three grandchildren and have lived on Cape Cod with my husband for fifty years. I currently serve as the Co-President of the Printmakers of Cape Cod a very active regional printmaking organization, which provides exhibition opportunities, workshops and student scholarships. I am member of the Boston Printmakers a National recognized organization devoted to the celebration of the art of Printmaking. In addition, I am a former president of the Monotype Guild of New England and a previous Director of the Higgins Art Gallery at Cape Cod Community College. Currently, I am a member of Art Synergies a group of artists who explore a range of traditional media and computer created art, this expands creative expression.”
