Figurative Expression and You: A Breakthrough Workshop in Claiming your Artistic Voice with Laura Shabott
2-Day Workshop, Saturday, October 5, and Sunday, October 6, from 10:00-3:00 pm each day.
Member $165 / Non-Member $180.
In this course designed by artist/teacher Laura Shabott, you will learn to make figurative expressive drawings, paintings and collages. Each day begins with a lecture/discussion about the Figurative Expressionists who studied with Hans Hofmann - Jan Mueller, Robert Henry, Selina Trieff, and others. Then, the class moves to the easel/table when the model arrives. Guided prompts will ground each artist in Hofmann’s theory of push/pull and how shape, form, color and composition work on a two dimensional surface.
We begin with gesture drawings and move onto collage and/or painting each day. Insightful, affirming critiques in this process-based course are designed to strengthen each artists’ voice and ability to make paintings that are accomplished and exciting.
People of all levels of experience are welcome.
