Saturday, January 13, from 10:30 - 12:30 pm.

Interested in learning more about Procreate? Rita Colantonio will present a demonstration of her workflow using Procreate app on her iPadpro. This demo will illustrate the steps in real time as she completes her image. Rita will be using a vintage photograph as a basis for her graphic pop art design. Some of the tools and techniques used will be sketching, painting,  color fill, color palette, clipping masks, and applying texture. Rita will also cover initial preparation for completing the piece, such as a collection of photographs and textures to be used.

Cover Image: Tea Party by Rita Colantonio. This piece can be a suitable illustration for a book cover, cards, etc., and illustrates how an artist can incorporate vintage photos as a resource for their design. Because there are sourced images in the piece, it can also be considered a collage.

This demonstration is offered in conjunction with the exhibition PIXELS.

Rita Colantonio is a digital artist and photographer living on Cape Cod since 2010, after a career as a public school art educator. She has been a juried Artist Member of the Cape Cod Art Center since 2005 and holds a Master Artist designation there. After 10 years as a member of the Cape Cod Art Center Camera Club and having achieved the highest rank in photography competition, Rita switched her focus to digital art in 2015. This change was prompted by her acquisition of an iPhone and experiments with available apps. She had already been experimenting with Photoshop manipulation in her photography for several years. Rita’s digital art style involves the use of many apps. Her interests are collage, digital painting, surrealism, pop art and photo montage.

Since then Rita has exhibited and won numerous awards for her digital art both nationally and internationally. She has exhibited her art in Palo Alto, University of North Dakota (where she won Best in Show), PhotoPlace Gallery in Vermont, Sardinia, Barcelona, Marblehead and Boston, MA, Sandwich Arts Alliance, Cultural Center of Cape Cod, Cotuit Center for the Arts, Cape Cod Art Center and Cape Cod Museum of Art. Rita has also been an Honorable Mention Recipient in Digital Manipulation and Collage category of the Worldwide Photography Gala Awards which includes the Pollux Awards and Julia Margaret Cameron Awards in 2019, 20, 21, and 23.

Rita was interviewed by Chronicle TV Magazine in 2017 after winning Best in Show in the Cape Cod Art Center’s first International Online Digital Art Competition.

She has been invited to curate two international Phonography competitions at the Plymouth Center for the Arts in 2019 and 2023. Rita has been featured in two online magazines and created two book covers. She was also one of the gallery artists featured in Nicki Fitzgerald’s new book Digital Collage with Procreate. She has been reviewed and interviewed multiple times by TheAppWhisperer.com, a well-respected art and photography journal based in the UK. Some of her work is available for sale at TheAppWhisperer.com online gallery.

Rita has been a digital art instructor at the Cape Cod Art Center and private mentor. She has been a major contributor and participant in the Cape Cod Art Center Digital Art Group since its inception. This year Rita has conducted a workshop in Procreate app for all Cape Cod art teachers.

Rita has promoted her art as “digital art” and as such, works to encourage other artists and photographers on Cape Cod and beyond to explore this new medium.
