Beginner Acrylic Painting with Michael Giaquinto
(4) Wednesdays, February 21 - March 13, from 6-8 pm.

Beginner to intermediate students will learn to use this water medium to bring out their artist within, and most importantly, bring a sense of self to their work. If you have never painted and always wanted to learn or if you have some experience but want to further your knowledge of acrylic painting; then this course is for you! This is basic with a comprehensive overview of the art of acrylic painting.
The course will cover the fundamentals starting with the color wheel, mixing paints, and proper use of brushes and composition. Develop your skills to improve your painting technique. This class is best suited for beginners.
Materials list:
- Paints “BASICS” – Cadmium Red Medium, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cobalt Blue, and White. (These are Primary Colors plus White) 150ml tubes.
- Brushes: Variety of sizes for acrylic paint
- Canvas Boards 10" x 8"
- Clean rags or a roll of paper towels
- Paper plates (dinner size)
- Suggested reference books: Daily Painting by Carol Marine and Learn to Paint in Acrylics with 50 Small Paintings by Mark Daniel Nelson
Michael Giaquinto was the Exhibitions Curator at the Cape Cod Museum of Art (CCMoA) for 17 years from 2003-2020. During that span, he curated over 200 exhibitions. Giaquinto studied fine art at the Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA, and art history at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC. He became the Chief Art Prepartor for the NC State University Gregg Museum of Art & Design from 1991-2000. Upon relocation to Cape Cod, Giaquinto became the art teacher for grades 9-12 at St. John Paul II High School in Hyannis. He continues to teach a wide range of mediums and levels to adults and children at many cultural institutions.
Giaquinto has exhibited in museums and galleries across the region and his artwork can be found in private, corporate, and museum collections. He is the 2023 Cape Cod Museum of Art Muse Artist Award recipient and will hold a one-person exhibition at CCMoA in 2025.
