About

The Museum School at the Cape Cod Museum of Art presents:

Spring Flowers in Metal Clay with Kim Rumberger

Friday, May 26, from 11:00 – 4:00 pm.

Member $45 / Non-Member $55

Learn to handle, shape, texture, refine, fire, and finish fine silver clay in this workshop.  You will complete a pure silver pendant (higher grade than sterling silver) that is imprinted using fresh flowers from a spring bouquet.

Metal Clay is a combination of tiny metal crystals (in this case, silver) and a plant-based non-toxic binder. When the binder is burned off, using a kiln or kitchen torch, the crystals become solid metal.  The clay picks up textures and details beautifully and handles very much like porcelain clay.  Finished pieces can have a patina applied to beautifully enhance the details.

Because this is the purest form of silver, without any other metals added, the pendant will be tarnish-resistant.

The instructor will provide all the tools necessary to complete one pendant. The clay and certain other materials will be purchased from the instructor at the time of the workshop and is separate from the class fee.

Kim Rumberger is an award-winning metal clay artist and instructor from Hyannis. She has taught Metal Clay classes since 2014 both on and off the Cape. Her work is recognized internationally and she recently was a presenter at the first-ever international Metal Clay conference in Pittsburg, PA, held by the Alliance for Metal Clay Arts Worldwide (AMCAW).

Kim was one of 12 (elite) presenters at the first international metal clay conference hosted by the Alliance for Metal Clay Artists Worldwide (AMCAW) in Pittsburg, PA in May 2022.  Her three one-hour presentations were about stone setting in metal clay and it was called “Thinking Outside the Bezel.”
