Why Journal? It feels good.
Keeping an Art Journal is a reflective process; it’s a way to explore feelings and ideas in a visual way, to be creative and take care of yourself at the same time. A journal is a place to write down things you want to remember and a place to leave things that you are ready to forget. It’s a book that includes writing, ephemera- those scraps we keep, lettering, lines, and colors. You can add to the journal every day or once a month…there are no rules.
In this in-person class, you can socialize with others while exploring different ways to keep an illustrated journal. Everything is included. We’ll talk about the hardest thing getting started.
We will talk about content. What to write and how to write it. This is not your grandmother’s diary. You will learn basic lettering and ways to alter the size and the message. We’ll include secret writing- sometimes you need that kind of thing to let things go.
You will create backgrounds with color and texture then learn easy ways to add images. You will experiment with color, layering, paints, tapes and more – it’s fun to try those supplies you’ve looked at in the art stores.
Don’t worry if you can’t draw a straight line, you won’t need to. In an art journal, any "mistake" can be altered or covered. You will learn how to minimize the mess and make journaling convenient at home and on the go. We’ll brainstorm all kinds of things to write about. No art experience or drawing ability is necessary at all, really!
We’ll talk about Travel Journals, Seasonal Journals, and every day or once-in-a-while journals. Everyone will go home with lots of ideas, a spiral-bound journal, and water brush. Please contact Lenore with any questions: lyonslenore@gmail.com
It’s fun to talk with others while being creative, something I’ve missed these past few years. Do this for yourself, you can relax and let your imagination take over.
