Do you love to paint? Join this class to learn how to convert a painting into a unique print. Monotype is a printmaking technique by which a painted image is transferred from a matrix to paper by applying pressure.
Printmaking, one of the oldest art forms, can be as simple as transferring paint from your hand to paper or more complex using registration techniques to apply delicate layers of paint. It can also be a fun experience playing with color, paint, and paper. Printmaking explores a wide range where everyone has the capability to succeed whether you are an artist, bookmaker, craft artist, or love making collage papers.
This workshop will explore the use of contemporary modifiers to paint on various matrix with a brayer or brush; how to use the Gelli plate for monotype and the choice of paper for a successful pull. Students will learn how to use an etching press, print at their station, or a combination of both. We will discuss the differences between monotype, monoprints, registration, and edition printmaking. The emphasis will be on various ways of transferring paint from the matrix to paper to create a unique print.

Cecilia Rossey is a multi-media artist trained in the fine and theatrical arts dedicated to the art of printmaking. Experienced in curating art exhibits, theater, and dance productions in Italy and the States. She is a Founding Member of the Dance Project of Tampa, FL, and the Eclectic Arts, Buffalo, NY. As an artist/printmaker, Rossey leans towards storytelling. Once an idea peculates she chooses the medium that best conveys the concept whether it be linocut, Solarplate etching, or mixed media. As she begins a project, Rossey stays open to possibilities and allows the mystery of design to proceed. Specializing in printmaking, Rossey loves process; the endless possibilities of mixing ink, manipulating color density, and choosing a receptive paper while respecting the integrity of that paper. The final work is a journey through the process as lines and color reveal form. Learn more.
