Intro to the Art of iPhoneography with Rebecca Bruyn on Zoom
Wednesday, January 27, 2021 - 3 hour workshop 1:00-4:00 pm $75 Members $90 Non-Members
iPhoneography, a form of mobile digital art, has grown into an international movement of thousands of people with varying backgrounds who have discovered how to capture an image spontaneously with their cell phone, and to create an image unique to that moment. Access to this kind of immediate expression of art has never existed before and has now become widely accepted as a legitimate form of art spanning around the world. Books have been published about mobile digital art and international shows are being held in various countries.
The workshop is designed for the beginner with no experience in post-processing. It’s an introduction to iPhoneography that will introduce you to a few of the most common editing apps.
During the workshop you will be provided a brief overview of your camera, while reviewing some basic photography composition tips. We then move to an introduction of a few photography apps used by many iPhoneographers. The goal of this workshop is to take you beyond the “native” camera in order to show you how to make creative images that reflect how you see the world. You don’t need to be an experienced photographer to participate.
Please bring your iPhone and/or iPad to the workshop fully charged. Please upgrade to the latest operating system, but no older that the iOS9.
It is a free upgrade. And lastly, have at least 5 images that you’ve taken with your cell phone that you’d like to work on.
Before arriving, please download the following apps: Snapseed; Distressed FX; & Facetune (not Facebook 2). Some are available at no charge. Others will be about a dollar or more.
There are many photo apps available in the App Store and you will find that if you walk away from this workshop “hooked” on this art form, you will be wanting more and more apps to experiment with! The first tip I offer you is to learn one app really well before going on to another one.
A list of several photo apps will be provided to you at the workshop.
This class is being offered as a collaboration between our Museum School and the Cape Cod Art Center.
You will be sent a zoom link from the Cape Cod Art Center prior to the first class.

Rebecca Bruyn defines herself as an alternative photographer who uses an antique printing method from the mid 1800’s called Cyanotype printing. She uses the images taken with a 35 mm camera and/or a cell phone camera to create unique hand made photographs on watercolor paper. More recently she has become an active contributor to the mobile photography art movement through a variety of Facebook pages dedicated to the mobile art community. Rebecca is a self-taught photographer who has been capturing images since the age of 12. Prior to moving to Cape Cod in 1997 she was a member of a collective of women photographers called The Photography Circle and an active member in The Roslindale Arts Association. After she moved to the Cape her dream was to have her work shown in a gallery. Since 2001, her Cyanotypes have been in viewed in four different galleries on the Cape. Currently, her Cyanotype work can be seen at The Cortile Gallery in Provincetown.
Rebecca was the winner of the 2010 competition for a new Truro Vineyards limited edition wine label in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the building of the Provincetown Monument. In addition, from 1997-2005 she was a member of the Cape Cod View Finders Camera Club and in 2007 joined The Truro Group, a community of over 50 artists, who show their work in a variety of settings on the Outer Cape. Though she has dedicated the last 20 years to her Cyanotypes and continues to work in this medium, since 2013, she has become immersed in the world of iPhoneography. Her vision is to share this new world with others in hopes they will be moved by this enormous capacity of creativity.
