Mangia Session I: November 16 – January 11 8 wheels available each week Make Mangia Bowls for the CCMoA Fundraiser on Tuesday Nights beginning November 16th through January 11th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Harry Holl Clay Studio. • This is NOT a class; no instruction will be provided. This is an opportunity to perfect your skills at no charge while helping CCMoA. • If you MAKE a minimum of 15 BOWLS towards our goal of 200, you’ll receive FREE tickets to Mangia on April 9, 2022. • Please note: All volunteers must be vaccinated against COVID and wear masks. Proof of vaccination should be shown at first class. • Please, park in the back of the Museum - take the 2nd driveway off of Hope Street. You will enter the building through the pottery studio in the back. A Message from Kathleen Fowler: Thank you for volunteering to make Mangia Bowls for the 2022 Mangia Event! And Welcome! The schedule is to throw and trim Mangia bowls through January 11, 2022. We will be asking everyone to sign up for the Tuesday night sessions that they will be able to make. Nights that you cannot be present will be listed on the Museum website for other potters to sign up. Apparently, there is a waiting list to make bowls. Mangia is the brainchild of Beth Sweeney, a long-time student of pottery at the Museum. She will give everyone a short history of Mangia and what the plans are for 2022, as far as those are set. We have been so fortunate to have many sponsors for the event over the years, including restaurants, pasta makers, cheese makers, beer donors and wine from Joseph Carr. We want a wide variety of bowl shapes, decoration, and glazing. We will have sample bowls from prior Mangia events to show. Beth Sweeney and I spent some time making balls of clay so that we can get to throwing quickly. The balls are approximately 2lbs each. We hope to throw one week and trim the next. We are asking that you agree to trim other potters bowls and have bowls that you made trimmed by other potters. This sequence actually was an exercise that we did in a class – it let us experience how a bowl thrown by someone else feels. Many thanks and let’s be creative! --Kathleen Fowler
