WINTER 2009 ART CLASSES FOR CHILDREN

 

 

CREATIVE DRAMA INSPIRED BY ART with Harwich Junior Theater (Session I)

4 weeks / Mondays, Jan. 25 - Feb. 15 / 4 - 5:30 pm
Members: $55   Non-members: $75     Ages 8 - 11

Join Harwich Junior Theater for an exciting acting workshop at CCMA! Through theatre games, storytelling, improvisation and pantomime, actors will develop their skills through dramatic play and observation. The drama will be developed in concert with sculpture, photography and artwork that are currently being displayed at the museum.

CLAY SAFARI FOR KIDS

6 weeks / Thursdays, Jan. 21 - Feb. 25 / 3:30 - 5 pm
Members: $70   Non-members: $90

What do you get when you cross an African water creature with a clay vessel? A Hippo-pot, of course. In this class, young artists learn basic techniques such as working with coils, slabs and pinch pots to make functional and sculptural creatures. We will encounter a wide variety of wild animals on this safari in clay. The emphasis is on having fun and experimenting with form, ideas and texture.

Are you interested in fashion design? Learn to draw fashions for women, men, teens and children. Create your own designs that focus on different design details. Whether you're a beginner or advanced designer, each class will be fun and informative!

FASHION DESIGN
Sioux Campbell
8 weeks / Mondays, Sept. 21 - Nov. 23 / 4 - 5:30 pm
Members: $90   Non-members: $110     No classes Oct. 12, 19

Do you want to learn to draw like a fashion designer? Learn to draw fashions for women, girls and men. Learn how to render fabrics and draw the fashion figure in various poses. Create posters of your own designs that focus on different seasons and color. Whether a beginner or advanced designer, learn new techniques each week to incorporate into your work.

Sioux Campbell graduated from Kent State University with a BA in Fashion Design. She received numerous design awards while at Kent State, and was chosen as the designer to represent KSU in the Air France Competition. A self-employed designer of clothing and handbags, Sioux teachers pre-school at The Learning Garden in Orleans, and is an avid volunteer in the community.



COMIC BOOK DESIGN      SOLD OUT
Matt Kemp
8 weeks / Mondays, Sept. 21 - Nov. 16 / 4 - 6 pm

Are you interested in writing or drawing, or just finding a way to put your imagination down on a page? Join and explore the wonderful medium of comics! You'll create a cartoon character, develop a story, and show action and excitement in your very own comic book design.

Matt Kemp graduated from Skidmore College with a degree in English and Art. He now works as a potter in Orleans, MA, at Kemp Pottery. His comic characters can sometimes be seen on his pottery and tile work. Matt has always loved telling stories with comics and has thoroughly enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experience in this medium with both children and adults.

Judi Olkkola
8 weeks / Wednesdays, Sept. 23 - Nov. 18 / 3:45 - 5 pm

Make extraordinary sunflowers, collages and masks inspired by the colors of autumn and decorated using a variety of materials. Techniques include drawing and painting with acrylic, poster and watercolor paints while exploring magical effects of liquid materials.

Judi Olkkola graduated from Anna Maria College with a BA in Art Education, grades K-12. She has taught in the Dennis-Yarmouth school system for over 30 years. Judi also teaches Summer Art Camp for children at CCMA. She has been a presenter at Massachusetts Art Education and National Art Education conferences.


CLAY FOR KIDS
Jenn Reed
8 weeks / Thursdays, Sept. 24 - Nov. 12 / 3:30 - 5 pm
Members: $90  Non-members: $110
Learn a variety of different hand building skills and techniques to make sculptural and functional art. A new project and theme will be introduced at each class to meet different skill levels and abilities. Inspirational materials will also be available in class. Students will be encouraged to challenge themselves and have fun!

Jenn Reed is a ceramic artist who makes narrative ceramic sculptures, tiles and platters. She holds her BFA from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, and was a resident at the Archie Bray Foundation in Montana. Jenn loves teaching children and is always inspired by their creations.



SKATEBOARD DESIGN              CLOSED
Sean Shea
8 weeks / Saturdays, Sept. 26 - Nov. 14 / 10:30 - 12:30 pm
Members: $105   Non-members: $125     Blank skateboard deck: $25

With an introduction to skateboard art culture, design a personalized skateboard deck. The course will cover basic drawing and stenciling techniques, with color achieved through spray painting.


Sean Shea
earned a BFA in Illustration from Rhode Island School of Design. He briefly worked in Las Vegas designing slot glass, but returned to the Cape where he currently shows his work with Eastham Painter's Guild as well as various galleries throughout Cape Cod.
